 Flags festoons of BJP destroyed, triggers resentment

AGARTALA, Nov 28 (TIWN): The flags festoons and the decorations of BJP ahead of the municipal election were destroyed by some unidentified goons, alleged the BJP leader on Saturday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that the opposition is trying to restrain them from organizing poll decoration at Shivnagar.

“The Left Front is apprehending to lose the seat in the coming municipal election and due to which they are trying to suppress us. But, they should clearly understand that people cannot be lured by spreading violence,” a leader stated.

The leaders also alleged that the CPI (M) cadres had, earlier, destroyed party flags, festoons in different areas of the municipal areas.

It is to be mentioned here that the flags were torn, banners were thrown in the drain and the banners and the posters were also destroyed.

However, getting alarm police personnel of east police reached the spot and investigated the spot

Police officials, TSR, teachers and government officials who will be engaged in the election duty will be able to cast their vote through postal ballot on December 2 and till December 4.  Rest of the common people will cast their vote on December 9.

It is to be mentioned here that almost all the political parties here in Tripura have geared up for the upcoming Municipal election which is scheduled to be held on December 9.     

A total of 912 nomination papers were declared as valid for the upcoming civic elections. While the CPM has been able to field 298 candidates, the Congress fielded 277 candidates and 260 candidates by the BJP.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.
