Civic polls: Candidates allowed to submit nomination papers from Thursday

AGARTALA, Nov 12 (TIWN): In a notification issued by the state election commission it is being notified that the candidates fighting the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats and by-election to casual vacancies in Panchayat are allowed to submit their nomination for the election from Thursday.The elections are slated to be held on December 9 next. It is to be mentioned here that there will be altogether 963 polling booths in Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and six Nagar Panchayats.However, the election process gained momentum with the issuance of the notification for submitting the nomination papers from Thursday.

Lasting date of filing nomination would be on November 19 while scrutiny would be done on the following day- November 20 and last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is slated for November 23.

District Magistrates of all eight districts are appointed as District Municipal Election Officers to coordinate and supervise all works related to the elections.

To ensure free and fair elections, the SEC has already held an all-party meeting to brief about the election guideline and to cooperate with the commission to conduct the safe election.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department. Besides, the names of SDM and BDOs appointed for one zilla parishad seat, one panchayat samiti seat and 25 wards of gram panchayat is also announced.

The testing of the Electronic Voting machine (EVM’s) has also began at election department.
