AGARTALA, Nov 10 (TIWN): On the occasion of the 25th celebration of the Goddess Kali, Jackson Gate Kali Puja committee on Tuesday observed indulge with various social activities at Jackson Gate.
Tripura Sundari Temple where gears up to celebrate the day with enthusiasm, people all across the State are ready to celebrate the day with diyaas and light in every houses.
Before Diwali night, people clean, renovate, and decorate their homes and offices. On Diwali night, Hindus dress up in new clothes or their best outfit, light up diyas (lamps and candles) inside and outside their home.
To mark the day as a part of the social activity, the Jackson Gate Kali Puja committee distributed cloths among the poor and needy families.
Besides, the committee also distributed fruits among in the old age homes. The programme has been inaugurated by Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman.
Speaking at the programme, by Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman appreciated the initiative taken by the committee and said that they should continue with such kind of initiatives.
Altogether 1000 poor people were helped on Tuesday.
Kali Puja also known as Shyama Puja or Mahanisha Puja. It is a festival dedicated to the goddess Kali, celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month Kartik especially in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Assam.
It coincides with the pan-Indian Lakshmi Puja day of Diwali. While the Bengalis, Odias and Assamese adore goddess Kali on this day the rest of India worships goddess Lakshmi on Diwali. Mahanisha puja is performed by the Maithili people of Mithila region in India and Nepal.
