The health department is taking some decision keeping the health minister in dark. Even the personal assistance of Choudhury is kept well informed about the decision taken by health department.
The latest in this edition was the role of department during the recent visit of Medical Council of India ( MCI) delegates in Agartala Medical College ( AGMC) and GB hospital. Reportedly, the department took all kind unparliamentary steps to woo the the visiting team. This was taken only to malign the image of the state health minister.
According to report the MCI delegates arrived in AGMC , the department kept no stones unturned to make the delegates happy in bid to cover up the short fall at the medical college. One such act was hiring for faculty members from outside for the inspection. The hired faculty members were given Rs 8 lakh for their two day stay in the state excluding airfare, food and lodging. The local hired faculty members were given ninety thousand rupees for two days. According to college sources the MCI team which arrived on June found some draw backs. Among the draw backs shortage of faculty members was the most prominent. During that the college authority some how managed to covered up the issue. But the visiting team told the college authority to make full arrangement of faculty members before their next visit. According to sources, since the inception of the AGMC in 2005, ninety of Professor’s and Asst. Professor’s from outside the state did not attend any classes in the college. To make them happy, the state government increased their pay but still they are not interested in teaching here.Meanwhile, the college authority have requested all faculty members to come in the state before arrival of MCI team. In total there are 24 faculty members from outside.
