BSF organises half marathon with the theme of peace, unity and integrity

AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN): Along with the other part of the nation, to mark the occasion of the golden Jubliee year of BSF, Tripura Frontier BSF has organized a Half Marathon at Agartala on Sunday. The Marathon was flagged off at 6:00 am by K Nagaraj, Director General of Tripura Police at Swami Vivekanand ground.

The half marathon which was conducted by BSF throughout the country today was a huge success and was organised under the banner of run for peace, unity and integrity.

Speaking on the occasion, DG Tripura Police said that BSF has produced many renowned sportsmen and has always encouraged sports in the country. He also lauded the efforts of BSF in organizing the Half Marathon in the state of Tripura and wished luck to all the participants.

The marathon was organised under the theme of “Glorious 50 years” of the BSF. It is an effort to spread awareness among masses about contributions the BSF has made in maintaining national security, besides border management.

However the rally began from Swami Vivekananda stadium at 6 in the morning and ended at BSF Headquarter in Salbagan covering a distance of 21 Km crossing though the various route via Colonel Chowmuhani-Firebrigade Chowmuhani-Durgachowmuhani Airport-Bhagalpur.

About 350 participants of the state including girls, women, and youth and force personnel participated in the half marathon.

The winner of the marathon was Nihar Das who completed the 21 km run in 01 hrs and 17 minutes. Prabindra Das and Mahender Kumar became the first and second runner up.  Winners were awarded with medals, certificates and cash prizes of Rs 20,000/-, 15,000/- and 10,000/ by Dr Yashpal Singh, Chief Secretary. Beside 08 numbers of consolation prizes were also distributed to the participants.

Addressing the people, Chief Secretary YP singh also lauded the efforts of BSF for organizing such events in the state. He also praised the Indian Golden girl Gymnast Deepa Karmakar for bringing laurels for the country at the international arena.

Out of the female participants, Shampa Shil and Pyali Ghosh were awarded with first and second prizes respectively. Ladies and children of BSF officers and men also participated in the marathon and completed the entire run. Maninder Sarkar was also awarded with special consolation prize for his participation and completion of marathon at the age of 60 years.    

To grace the occasion, BSF also felicitated renowned sports personalities of the state namely Golden girl of Tripura Deepa Karmakar for her achievements in the field of Gymnastics internationally and her coach Bisheswar Nandi was also felicitated by BSF.
