Begging for votes: Left front kicks off door-to-door campaign for the ensuing civic polls

AGARTALA, Nov 7 (TIWN): Even as just one month to go for the next Civic polls, the left front in Tripura on Wednesday unveiled its road map for the coming battle of ballots. One the one hand where the BJP and congress has not yet declared the candidates name for the polls, the left front has already kicked off their door to door campaign with the aim to completely swift in the civic polls this year.

The Left Front kick-started its campaign here on Saturday for the forthcoming Municipal elections with a mammoth rally, where the candidates urged for votes from the common public to win in the upcoming election.

While the leaders present in the rally urged for greater unity within the Left parties ahead of the polls, the leaders moved door-to door for promoting themselves to earn votes in the election.

The leaders claimed to serve the interests of the common people, fight communalism and pursue an independent foreign policy. It is for the people to determine what shape the alternative government is to take, urged the leaders while participating in the door to door campaign.

However, it is to be mentioned here that with the aim to win the civic polls the left front has already began the election campaign where the other two major parties in the state BJP and congress has not yet declared the manes of the candidates for the election.

The last date for making nomination would be on November 19 and the scrutiny will be done on the following day. Last date for the withdrawal of the nomination would be on November 23.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

The final photo voter lists for the ensuing Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 13 Municipal Councils and 6 Nagar Panchayats is announced by state election department. Besides, the names of SDM and BDOs appointed for one zilla parishad seat, one panchayat samiti seat and 25 wards of gram panchayat is also announced.

The testing of the Electronic Voting machine (EVM’s) has also began from Friday at election department.
