Suspected militant arrested in Tripura, sent to 7 days of police remand

AGARTALA, Nov 7 (TIWN): A suspected Bangladesh terrorist, who confessed to have been involved in the Burdwan blast in West Bengal, was arrested from Tripura's Sipahijala district, about 50 km from here.

Police said the arrestee is identified as Jahangir Hussain (32) was arrested from Himmatpur village under Jatarpur police station bordering Bangladesh following a tip-off from the state intelligence wing. 

Around a year back Hussain, a Bangladeshi, had married Nasrin Aktar and started staying in his in-laws house. He is suspected to be involved with the Oct 2, 2014 Burdwan blast.

During preliminary investigation, Hussain admitted that he is a citizen of Chittagong in Bangladesh and was involved with the Burdwan blast. Hussain was produced before the court of Sonamura sub-divisional judicial magistrate and remanded to seven days police remand Jatrapur Police Station.

Reportedly, after the Burdwan blast, Hussain reached Tripura and stayed at a rented house in K. K. Nagar village near a BSF Border Outpost (BOP). He married the daughter of the houseowner there and was staying for about last one year, the police sources informed.

On October 2, last year an accidental blast took place while manufacturing IEDs in Burdwan's Khagragarh area and led to the arrest of three terror suspects who are members of terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The police recovered bodies of two JMB members Shakil Ahmed and Sovan Mandal - and arrested Amina Bibi and Rajira Bibi. The probe into the blast was handed over to NIA and several more terror suspects were arrested.

However, police is further investigating the case.
