AGARTALA, Nov 5 (TIWN): State Government has decided to provide 20kilogram of Rice Grain to the ration shop consumer from the month of December.

Reportedly, families belonging to non-priority households will be provided with 20 kg. The decision will be implemented from December.

The consumers who are getting 15 kg of rice grains at present will be getting 5 kg more from the month of December.

Keeping eye on the ensuing Municipal and Nagar Panchayat election, allegation has been raised against the ruling Government saying that trying to tempt the people, goods are being distributed among the people in various parts of the State.

Besides, various tempting initiatives are being taken just before the election to create a good image of the Government in front people of the State, claimed a local. Uncertainty looms over the stability of the decision.

Enhancing the initiative taken by the ruling Government, it has been mentioned that prior to one year the State Government has decided to provide subsidized edible mustard oil and Masoor Dal to the consumers of the Ration Shop but due to unknown reasons it cancelled. But later it was decided to provide the price of the commodities in the account of the consumers but after one year also no there is of sign of any amount.

However, hike in the cost of the items of the Ration Shop has become another headache for the consumers. On the other hand, the vegetable markets and the other commodities are also not showing any sign of relief from the hike.

The National Food Security Act, 2013 is an Act of the Parliament of India which aims to provide subsidized food grains to population of the country. It was signed into law on September 12, 2013, retroactive to July 5, 2013.

The National Food Security Act, 2013 converts into legal entitlements for existing food security programmes of the Government of India. It includes the Midday Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Services scheme and the Public Distribution System. Further, the NFSA 2013 recognizes maternity entitlements.
