AGARTALA, Oct 14 (TIWN): With the breakdown of the NH-44 and the alternative route HNC, transportation and connectivity outside the state is badly hampered and there is no assurance when the condition of the road will improve. Observing zero development in the condition of the road, Motor Chalak Samity has taken the initiative to run the goods loaded truck over the Kurti River . Accordingly the few numbers of goods loaded truck have started entering the state through the bridge over the Kurti River located at Tripura-Assam border area. The deplorable condition of the National Highway road 44 is causing several hurdles for the drivers of the big vehicles like buses and others. With this, transportation of food grain, petroleum products and essential items has been badly hampered. However it is to be mentioned here that in the last pre-monsoonal rainfall here at the state has turned the condition of the road worst, with the vehicles travelling from Assam to Agartala and Agartala-Assam, facing several hurdles. Earlier several mishaps had occurred at the concerned national highway road. It is to be mentioned here that the condition of National Highway has worsened after it was handed over to the State PWD by NHAI, which raised hopes among the commuters that their transportation problems will come to an end.

But their hopes evaporated as the condition of the NH-44 is getting worsened day by day.

After taking over the charge of maintenance of NH-44, the PWD is not working up to the mark.

After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORTH) handed over development and maintenance of 104 km of the Assam Agartala National Highway (NH-44) to the PWD from Border Roads Organization (BRO) in July 16th, 2013, the condition of the NH-44 is getting worse day-by-day due to negligence of State PWD, which is headed by Minister Badal Chowdhury.

The busy NHC road which was opened after NH-44 became unworthy for trafficking, has become risky with a huge part of NHC road had broken down.

According to the report as the movement of vehicles on NH-44 has been stopped, along with the halt of Rain-lines service, the load on alternative NHC has been increased more.

NHC road, which was left in bad condition, neglected since years, just used in emergency time, suddenly with increasing pressure upon it, the road-condition has been worsened, due to this the way has become risky for vehicle movement.
