AGARTALA, Oct 8 (TIWN): Despite of several tall claims by the authority to stop child labour and to remove poverty in the State, children are being observed on the street begging all around to feel their stomach.

State Government claims several times that they have been providing houses to the poor and the needy, generating employment through MGNREGA and many other Governmental scheme but even today the children with torn cloths are witnessed begging in front of every shopping malls and food stores. Even many a time found working as made servant in houses as they have no other option.

Though they want to study and join school like any other children, the fear of empty stomach lead them to either beg or to work somewhere else to feel their stomach.

It is worth to mention that Dhalai district administration has decided to provide house to the children of the district. Besides, block level security committee will be established at every blocks of the district.

Side by side the administration has discussed to organize a district level workshop regarding the security of the children. During the workshop the representatives of the Panchayat and the village will be participating.

However, it has been decided that every month an awareness camp will be organized from the various child help organization and will discuss about the child labour law and child marriage so that the children get aware about their rights.

Children who live and work on the streets are especially vulnerable to physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Sometimes these children are exploited to beg or work on the street by adults.

However, a portion of boys and girls are still witnessed on the streets of the capital begging all around to feed their stomach.

Many of the street children who have run away from home because they were either beaten or sexually abused. Besides, sometimes they had to beg and work so that they can feed their family as they are hit with the poverty.

Tragically, their homelessness even leads to further abuse through exploitative child labour and prostitution.

Street children live and work amidst trash, animals and open sewers. Not only are they exposed and susceptible to disease, they are also unlikely to be vaccinated or receive medical treatment.

Child labourers suffer from exhaustion, injury, exposure to dangerous chemicals and most of the times they build habits of taking drugs.
