AGARTALA, Oct 7 (TIWN): In spite of limited having limited CNG station, state’s transport department is issuing permit for CNG vehicles at random. This have given rise to fresh problem for the vehicle owners. The CNG stations in function unable to cater the demand of rising vehicles. Either there are no supply of gas, if gas is available than machine is out of order. It’s a common feature all CNG station cannot function at a same time. This not only causes problem to CNG vehicle owners, revenue generation of the state is also affected.
Demands are being raised to open more CNG stations across the state. The demand got more logical after the state was cut off from rest of the country due to deteriorating condition of NH 44 at Lowerpoa, Assam. All kind of vehicular movement came to stand still.
The civil society is of the view that if the NH 44 breaks down for couple of days than the state faces serious fuel crisis , LPG and essential commodities. Leading to sky rocketing of prices. Whereas the CNG run vehicles were not affected.
Our neighboring country Bangladesh is extensively using CNG, after every 20 km there is a fill up station. Half of the vehicles in Bangladesh runs on CNG. However, the state government has failed to reap the maximum benefit of natural gas even having vast a stock underground.
TNGCL assured of setting up CNG mother station at Udaipur, Teliamura and two more at Agartala. But they have failed to do so. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar often speaks about the abundance of natural gas in the state, but lacks plan and mentality to utilize the natural resource.
