AGARTALA, Oct 5 (TIWN): After prolonged suffering and chaos faced by the common people, Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bhanulal Saha finally manages to set up a vigilance committee and asked the members to visit the markets.
It is being several days that the common people are being suffering due to the price hike in the most of the commodities. But none of the authorities could manage time to look in to the market status and to think about the welfare of the common people.
Along with the hike in the onion prices, vegetables prices have also soared in the state just ahead of the auspicious celebration Durga Puja festival.
Even after months of price hike of Onion, which has almost touched the sky, Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister Bhanu lal Saha was in long yawning siesta to check the price hike of the onions and the vegetables in the wholesale as well retail market.
However, it is worthy to mention that Food, Civil supplies and Consumers Affairs Minister finally manage to set up a vigilance team just before the upcoming Municipal Election and Nagar Panchayat Election.
Minister Saha asked the team to check all the shops and markets and to find out the reason behind the price hike. Besides, he also asked them to find out that whether the shopkeepers have hiked the price on their own terms or due to the unavailability.
Earlier where the retail price of the onion was only for Rs. 40 per kilogram, suddenly the price has shot up to Rs. 80 per kilogram in the State. Besides, the wholesale prices of onions have also risen over the same period across the state.
However, along with the onion which plays an important role in every kitchen, price of the other vegetables in the market also hiked.
So far the price hikes of the vegetables have upset the budgets of the lower and middle class families.
