Tripura's lifeline NH-44 turns worst muddy field : PWD Minister Badal avoids NH-44, diverts attention to other issues like Muhurichar to score political mileage

AGARTALA, Oct 3 (TIWN): Tripura Minister Badal Choudhury is calling for press meets one after one and discussing various current issues due to which state is suffering now a days and as well as to show the how concerned is the state govt. for the problems affecting State people. But strangely, although the Health Minister Badal Choudhury stayed numb for malaria-deaths since data of Malaria infection had been released in Sept 2015 after Congress held press meet and condemned the state govt.’s health dept. But suddenly on Sep 29 Choudhury held press conference and released data with a fresh data and said, “In total 22,562 people are attacked by the Malaria virus and a total of 16 people died”. On the next day, i.e. on Sep 30 Badal again called another press conference with the issue of Muhuri Char. Choudhury passed hours to describe the issue of Indo-Bangla border and mentioned the history of 50 years old issue with Pakistan (presently Bangladesh). He also stretched the time of 1974, when Indira-Mujib had dealt to make the border of Indo-Bangla, which will be stretched in the middle of Muhuri river. Surprisingly Badal Chowdhury kept quiet when years back joint team of India and Bangladesh officials worked on demarcation of Indo-Bangla international border which resulted in Modi-Hasina LBA agreement in 2015.Surpringly Badal Choudhury, who also the Minister for PWD Dept. keeps silent to say anything regarding the problems of NH-44 and what state govt. is doing to restore the highway which is Tripura's lifeline. Choudhury blamed the Assam Govt. but preferred to close eyes State PWD's role on NH-44.

Although till now, through media,

Allegations are coming against PWD dept. for its negligence state-wide. Not only the Assam-Agartala road, but whole Tripura is hit by National Highway’s pathetic condition. South Tripura to North Tripura everywhere roads are left in deplorable condition. Other roads are already out of control, but the NH-44 which is known as the life-line of State Tripura is suffering due to the negligence of PWD dept.

Interestingly, PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik often mentions that “The deplorable condition of road-ways are very natural”. But it is to be mentioned that the pathetic condition of road has become natural here due to the cheap material used by the CPI-M contractors.

Moreover, Badal Choudhury also blames the centre for not allocating funds, whether sources say that more than 25 cores has already being sanctioned from the centre and more will be to sanctioned.

But surprisingly, when state’s most sensitive problem is striking to this extent, PWD Minister Badal Choudhury didn’t mention anything regarding this issue, rather he within 48 hours called 2 press conferences in 2 separate topics. One is Malaria. However, before few weeks, when Malaria was a sensitive issue Minister chosed to remain silent.  But suddenly with the increasing resentment of public with NH-44, Choudhury diverted the topic with previous issues. Another topic of the 2nd press meet was Muhuri Char, which was also a part of the Master stroke of diplomacy in CPI-M regime.

Question arises; whether Badal Choudhury is all together is capable to  hold 3 departments: (1) Health, (2) PWD, (3) Revenue; so why he is doing step motherly attitude with PWD ?

Moreover, when NH-44 is the most urgent issue to be addressed, why he didn’t bother to go for a single press conference in this regard? This is called politics, and sometimes, unknowingly media also fell in the trap.
