AGARTALA, Oct 3 (TIWN): TB (tuberculosis) Seal Day has been observed here at Tripura on Friday. It is observed across the whole world and by selling TB seals/stickers volunteers gathers the money and then they donate these moneys in the name of TB Associations so that patients, who are suffering from TB, may be helped financially.

On Friday the process of selling seal stickers was started from CM’s residence. He was the first buyer of TB stickers in 2015 TB Seal Day. Then the group will continue their visits to the common people also, so that the TB patients may be helped.

However it’s worthy to mention here that although Tripura CM avoided to mention the death of a person in Tripura on Thursday due to Tuberculosis as States healthcare suffering like “cancer like situation”, but CM shared his pictures with media as being the first donator for Tuberculosis.

The man who has died due to lack of proper treatment here at Tripura on Wednesday is namely Upendra Debbarma under Bangshiram Bari ADC Village. He was suffering from TB since many years and due to his poverty he could not went through proper medical treatment. Then he chosed the path of death and commited suicide.

Although that area was provided with so many Asha women and multipurpose workers, but nobody visited his house for a single day. As a result in Manik’s Golden era another passes way silently and CM is giving donations for TB patients by buying stickers.

However a story is behind the day namely TB Seal Day: A kindly postman named Einer Holboell, while sorting out heavy Christmas mail in 1903, noticed some children limping across the road. He was extremely moved by the sight of these children who were suffering from tuberculosis of the bone. A thought struck him. If we could get people to buy a special Christmas Seal while the spirit of giving is strong during Christmas, it would be wonderful. There are so many letters and packages, and just a penny seal on each one would bring a lot of money to help the sick and needy children. There might even be enough to start a hospital for children. The idea of Einer Holboell was received enthusiastically by the Danish people. The King of Denmark gave his approval. This was how the first Christmas Seal appear in 1904 with the Patronage of King Christian. The sale of Christmas Seals for collecting funds for anti-tuberculosis work was soon taken up by other countries and today almost all National TB Associations are collecting large sums of money through this Campaign.
