Skill development is essential to achieve sustainability

AGARTALA, Sep 29(TIWN): With the aim to fulfill the growing need of India for skilled manpower across the sectors and narrow the existing gap between the demand and supply of skills, a workshop on roadmap for skill development in Tripura was held at Pragna Bhawan on Tuesday.

Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh inaugurated the program and said that Skill development is essential to achieve sustainability.

Speaking at the program he further said that  the program mainly aims to integrate efforts of various departments of the State and Central Government organizations engaged in providing skill development training and make available employment oriented and placement linked training in vocational skills to youth in the age group of 14 to 35 years by 2016-17, and even at a greater pace thereafter, by partnering with government and private training providers, while ensuring equitable access to the most disadvantaged, including women; and strive for placement of preferably of the trained youth in gainful wage and self-employment to enable them to contribute to the economic development of the State.

Stressing on the role of National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), representatives from NSDA Monika Mishra said that The National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, which coordinates and harmonizes the skill development efforts of the Indian government and the private sector to achieve the skilling targets of the 12th Plan document and beyond.

The NSDA plays a pivotal role in bridging the social, regional, gender and economic divide by ensuring that the skilling needs of the disadvantaged and marginalized groups like SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, women and differently-disabled persons are taken care of through the various skill development program and also by taking affirmative action’s as part of advocacy, added representative from NSDA Prabal Bharadwaj.

However, the workshop also held a tie-up session which included interaction between all line departments of the state governments, SSCs and training providers.
