AGARTALA, Sep 28 (TIWN): Howrah river, once knew as capital city’s life is deterioting day by day although to get media focus so many programmes are organized by the govt. and propagates that Such an example is Golok Thakur village, a tribal village at Jirania area, where 2 houses have already flown into the river and many are in the verge of destruction. As a result, when rain comes, tension prevails among the tribals of that area as Howrah’s navigatibility has lost since decades and any time rain comes it can destroy the bank’s areas.

However, state govt.’s recently given words are still people’s hope, that steps will be taken to save the Howrah banks and its people residing beside it.

Howeverto stop the erosion of the Howrah river bank, altogether 47.42 hector of land was announced to bought under bamboo plantation. West District Forest officer Rajat Das himself through a conference announced that. But, it seems that the initiatives yets to be taken inthis regard and govt.’s restfulness attitude left the Howrah river bank open to be eroted and has become a death trap for the people who lives over Howrah river bank. It was also promised that already 27 hector land has been brought under the bamboo cultivation.

But in reality, although centre sanctioned Rs. 2.36 crore in this purpose already, but state govt. till now is failed to take any initiative to stop the erotion.

The problem of the river does not end here, the river is also facing frequent threats of major water pollution and although Manik set his mission long back to “Save Howrah” but Howrah river’s pollution is increasing day by day, rather than decreasing.
