AGARTALA, September 28 (TIWN): East Tripura Police on Monday produced a truck driver before the Court, in allegation of importing illegal liquor in to the State whose market rate is of Rs. 4 Lakh.

In a major breakthrough, East Tripura Police on Sunday late night seized 180 boxes of liquor from Asram Choumuhani when Officers were carrying out checks on vehicles. Each boxes of liquor contains 12 bottles.

Reportedly, East Tripura Police has successfully nabbed the drivers connected with the illicit crime when the alcohol loaded truck was checking in the State on Sunday late night.

The driver has been identified as the resident of Tiltoi Panisagar, namely Sudhir Nath.

The operation was led by OC Satyendra Basu Roy Choudhury along with other police personnel.

Just before the Puja fervour in the State the imports of illegal goods have increases; smugglers are busy in import illegal goods and are selling them here in the State.

During the Puja fervours people usually catch up with friends over drinks. Now that Durga Puja is here, youngsters can be seen hanging out with friends and downing bottles of liquor.

According to the source, hundreds of smugglers based in Tripura are sending spurious Phensedyl, a cough syrup, with an exceedingly high dose of codeine and other drugs to Bangladesh. Besides, numbers of smugglers are engaged in both the sides of the border in smuggling illegal Phensedyl and liquor.

However, it is to be mentioned here that State police often detains vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments and illegal liquors that are legally imported. But, the network is very deep-rooted and widespread.
