AGARTALA, Sep 17 (TIWN): For the first time Smriti Irani will arrive in the state after assuming the post of HRD Minister on September 18 to attend deliberations with Northeast region education ministers and education secretaries on the new education policy. The meeting will held at at Pragna Bhawan. She was scheduled to arrive on September 17 ( Thursday) but it was postponed.
HRD Minister will reach Agartala airport at 9.30 am, she will reach NIT campus at 10.15 am to address the student, teaching and non – teaching staff of the institute in Visvesvaraya Auditorium of NIT.
From there she will attend the deliberations in Pragna Bhawan at 12.30 pm. In the evening Smriti Irani will call Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at secretrait in the evening . On September 19 mornings she will leave Agartala.
Recently at the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) meeting, 20 state ministers had unanimously backed the need to amend the Right to Education (RTE) Act to enable yearly examinations and detention of poor performers. The first draft of the new education policy, upon which they will have further deliberations on, will be out by December.
The National Policy on Education was framed in 1986 and modified in 1992. Since then several changes have taken place that calls for a revision of the Policy.
The Government of India would like to bring out a National Education Policy to meet the changing dynamics of the population’s requirement with regards to quality education, innovation and research, aiming to make India a knowledge superpower by equipping its students with the necessary skills and knowledge and to eliminate the shortage of manpower in science, technology, academics and industry.
