Fallen tree blocks Assam-Agartala road, disrupts normal life: No initiative from the officials

AGARTALA, September 13 (TIWN): A huge tree that collapsed on Saturday mid Night blocked the Assam-Agartala national highway for several hours, which left hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides.Assam-Agartala National Highway has become completely blocked from both the side after a giant old tree as fallen over the road on Saturday late night at an around 3:00 am at Reshambagan.Motorists and vehicles are being diverted locally by members of the public at present after the tree fell and blocked the entire width of the road. The bi-cycles riders and the pedestrians are managing to crawl through under the fallen tree. No one has been injured in the incident, as the incident has occurred at the late night when the roads were not so busy.Reportedly, after being informed by the locals, the forest official did not bother to arrive on the spot and to look into the matter. According to the locals, till morning 9 am no officials had visited the spot.Agitated locals seeing no alternative took the initiative and started to chop the tree so that the traffic could get in to smooth convenience soon.“Where it is the responsibility of the Forest Department to look in to the incident, no one among the officials visited the area. Therefore, we had to take initiative”, said a local. As the blockade is creating problem for us.The felling of trees over the road has even knocked down the electric poles disrupting the power supply in the area. However, the people especially tourists have to face tough time due to blockage of National Highway.Reportedly, several vehicles have been stranded after the incident occurred at Reshambagan due to the sudden falling of trees on the road.

Therefore, it has created huge problem for the commuters.It has been learnt that the incident took place on Saturday mid-night.According to the locals, it has been said that earlier they have complaint for several time to the Forest Officials regarding the condition of the tree.

“We have informed several times to the officials of the Forest Department regarding the tree, as it was a very old tree and could have fallen any time. But they did not bothered and to today we are facing hurdles”, said a local.
