SONAMURA / AGARTALA, September 11 (TIWN): Sonamura, the “gateway of all kinds of illegal business” for smugglers still unsafe, due to lack of border fencing at many places of Border areas. Whenever, authorites go for fencing border, border area’s public backed by smugglers stop them by all means. According to the public of border area, they need the full compensation money at market rate otherwise the people would never allow officials to enter there, boasts smuggler dominated public.

Due to compensation disputes since many days the border fencing work is not progressing and Sonamura border, which is the centre for all kind of illegal business remains open for smugglers.

However, officials said, “Boder fencing in 10.5 km area, would not be stopped anyhow”.

Therefore in a meeting among BSF, Police, Border officials and public held yesterday, where Nabaddip Chandra Nagar border area people gathered en-masse and voiced their demands.

Public demanded if zero point border fencing will be taken up then govt. has to pay enough compensation money to them.

However these are ploys by smugglers to delay fencing of this open border which is causing yearly over Rs 1000 crores loss of revenue of Customs Duty of smuggled goods.

They also want to know the decision of govt. which was done after govt.s of Bangladesh and India meeting.

For decades the people of Sonamura were living in this place; hence market to temple everything comes under this area. But suddenly without knowing any proper reason, people of Sonamura gave objection to leave their land.
