AGARTALA, September 9 (TIWN): Kailasahar Unnayan Mancha on Wednesday called a 12 hours strike, demanding to renovate the Kailashahar-Kumarghat road which has been remained paralysed since 3 years.

The 12hours of strike on Wednesday has affected the normal life in the Kailashahar sub-division as all means of public transport stayed off the roads.

However, the picketers assembled in front of the various governments’ offices and at the roads to stop the employees from entering the offices in response to the 12-hour general strike.

Besides, in the support of the 12-hour strike all the busses from Agartala and Silchar were stopped.

According to report, the strike was observed peacefully. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the sub-division.

The call has come up in view of getting an assurance from concerned administration. However, the Fire Service, Power House and other essential departments were allowed to remain open.

According to the protestors Rs. 80 crore was sanctioned for the renovation of the road in the year 2013 and the BRO was inducted in the work but due to their negligence the road was left worst paralysing the transportation system so far. 

Besides, Kailasahar Unnayan Mancha also tagged 7 hours of road blockade on Tuesday demanding District Administration Mrinal Kanti Nath to visit the spot assuring them for proper transportation facilities.

However, the Mancha had called for a strike on Wednesday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm just because the DM avoided responding to their road blockade. Kailasahar SDM Ajit Shukla Das rushed to the spot but failed to make any assurance in regard of their demand.

Informing about the upcoming programme, Publicity Secretary of Kailasahar Unnayan Mancha Nitish Dey said that on November 20 next they would go for mass demonstration at Agartala, demanding to set fertilizer industry at Kailashahar and to renovate the Airport.

However, if their demands are not fulfilled than they will go for continues strike from the December 1st week onwards and in the year 2016 in the month of March they will call for hunger strike if the demands are not fulfilled.

Besides, if the road renovation works are not initiated soon than the Kailasahar Unnayan Mancha will encircle the DM, added.
