Tripura to go for TET by December through online, Board chairman talks to media
TIWN

AGARTALA, August 30 (TIWN): Finally the Teachers’ Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT) being constituted by the government of Tripura prepares to conduct Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) examination. The first of its kind in Left ruled Tripura the examination mandated by the National Council for Teachers (NCTE) would be conducted by the month of December this year if everything falls on right track. “We are preparing to conduct the first examination by this year last,” said TRBT Chairman Dr. Arup Kumar Dutta.

Talking to the reporters here at the TRBT office on Saturday Dutta said, “We are trying our utmost to take up the entire procedure through online.”

The board will function as per the formalities laid down by the central regulating authorities. Tripura TET is for the candidates aspiring to become teachers in primary (class I -V) and upper primary (VI-VIII) schools in the state of Tripura, said Dutta.

He also said that TET is a compulsory examination for all the B.Ed. qualified candidates to be considered for teacher jobs in schools run by the government and private managements. Candidates may be facilitated to apply online for this examination.

“The candidates have to answer the OMR sheets which would be provided by the board for the maximum of 2 and half hours being permitted in the examination,” adding Dutta said that one has to secure at least 60 per cent marks to pass the TET examination i.e. 90 marks out of the total of 150 marks.

He also clarified that a candidate can appear for TET more than a time if he or she desires to secure good marks but the certificate for TET passed candidates would be valid for 7 years according to the NCTE guidelines.

He also said, “The board is only entitled to frame merit list of the candidates for the post of teachers across the state whereas the recruitment agency will recruit the candidates next.”

The main functions of the Board will be maintaining records of the selection made by the Board by computerization and networking of recruitment activities to ensure transparency and accuracy, preparation of guidelines on the matter relating to the methods of selection of teachers as per requirement and selection of candidates and recommendation of names of selected candidates to the concerned authorities for appointment as Under Graduate, Graduate and Post Graduate teachers to the government and Govt. aided other schools including SSA Rajya Mission, RMSA/TTAADC.

The implementation of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 requires the recruitment of a large number of teachers across the country in a time bound manner.

Inspite of the enormity of the task, it is desirable to ensure that quality requirement for recruitment of teachers is not diluted at any cost.

It is therefore necessary to ensure that persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at the primary and upper primary level.
