AGARTALA, August 23 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's version about the heavy presence of NLFT at Bangladesh, their use of Tripura’s soil to spread terrorism ,16 NLFT camps in neighbouring Bangladesh and the outfit has around 80 cadres with roughly 100 sophisticated arms, has been criticized by Tripura BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta while talking to TIWN on Sunday.“Central Govt. is trying to bring back the peace in North Eastern region, also doing all the background intelligence work but Manik is only doing excess talking to reap political benefits, also Manik’s excess comments may lead ego clash between these two countries”, says Sudhindra Dasgupta, BJP State President. According to the reports of govt. officials of Union Home Ministry, India and Bangladesh intelligence agencies and Tripura government have already held two rounds of talks during the past six months with the NLFT in Delhi and Shillong. Apparently Modi led Central Govt agencies doing all the important work to wipe out insurgent groups of North East operating from Bangladesh soil but wily Manik Sarkar seeking credit for all the positive developments. State BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta snubbed Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on talking excess over NLFT surrender process and tall claims of CPI-M led State Government.

“We are ready to continue the peace talks with the NLFT”, says Sarkar recently.

Sarkar also mentioned to the media that under the Indian constitution, govt. is ready to hold talks on any issues of the NLFT.

Manik has been recently inspired more after the NSCN (IM), one more banned terrorist group in northeastern India gave up arms and signed a peace pact with the government.

According to the chief minister, there are at least 16 NLFT camps in neighbouring Bangladesh and the outfit has around 80 cadres with roughly 100 sophisticated arms.

The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was formed on March 12, 1989, with Dhananjoy Reang (former Vice-President of the Tripura National Volunteers) as its ‘chairman’. Reang after being ‘expelled’ from the NLFT in 1993 formed a separate outfit, the Tripura Resurrection Army (TRA), but surrendered in the year 1997.

After Reang’s removal, Nayanbasi Jamatiya became leader of the outfit and later Biswamohan Debbarma took over. However, another split occurred in September 2000 following differences between the Halam and Debbarma tribal members of the NLFT.
