AGARTALA, August 23 (TIWN): Despite the Union Ministry has declared the state’s Dharmanagar railway station as a model station lack of infrastructural development has kept commuters backtracked from availing required facilities as per the declaration of central government. The locals claimed that demands were put to upgrade the existing rail station elevating it to a model station.
“Along with the commencement of broad gauge conversion work from Badarpur to Agartala via Dharmanagar, demands were placed to upgrade it,” said local official.
It is assumed that after the establishment of BG network, Dharmanagar junction will act as a corridor for Tripura-Mizoram-Assam.
A decade ago the then central minister for railway had declared Dharmanagar railway station as one of the model station amongst the 100 model railway stations in the budget session in Parliament.
The issue was suppressed but in the recent times questions were raised about the current status of the Dharmanagar railway station. According to the local commuters, infrastructure to elevate the station as a model station is required to be developed along with the commencement of the BG conversion work.
In view of the station as one of the busiest station it was declared as a model station, despite the infrastructure is not up to the mark, claimed locals. Besides there were demands to establish Juri rail way line at Dharmanagar.
