UDAIPUR, August 23 (TIWN): After 3 years passage of a housewife of Murapara had committed suicide, after getting peeved from continuous tortures of dowry by her laws, Gomati Dist. Session Judge Ashish Pal convicted Sanjib Das, S/O-Kailash Das as criminal and sent him to 3-year-jail finding him guilty for torturing his wife for dowry, which compelled her to commit suicide by hanging herself.
The victim Purnima Das married Sanjib Das in 2010. After few days of their marriage, Sanjib Das started to torture upon Punima to bring 20,000/- rupees cash along with jewelleries.
However being unable to arrange the demanded money and equipments Purnima’s father Dinabandhu Das tried to mutual the matter with the help of the Panchayat many times. But the situation was worsening day by day. It had been informed many times in the Panchayat that Purnima’s husband along with her laws often tortures her physically and as well as mentally.
Then it was in 2012, 26 December, that Purnima being unable to bear the torment chose to die to get a relief from her laws’ continuous tortures in the name of dowry.
Being wrecked with the death of their younger girl, H Dinabondhu Das lodged an FIR against Purnima’s Husband Sanjib Das, Purnima’s mother in law Kalpana Datta and father in law Kailash Das for initiating her to die.
Dowry harassment claimed yet another life here recently increasing day by day at Udaipur. From dowry to rape everywhere women are unsafe. From girl-child to housewife, everyday there are many scarifices of lives and govt. has turned a blind eye into them.
