IGM : State's premier hospital in shambles; Manik govt's only goal to build high rise structures to beneifit CPI-M contractors, construction mafia

AGARTALA, August 22 (TIWN): The services of state primier referral hospital, IGM, is breaking down gradually. Role of government and health department is of blind spectator. Their sole motive is to construct high rise concrete structures from funds received from Central government, sideline ling the need of providing quality medical service to patients, according to people and patients. One year back at IGM, a seven storied beautiful building was constructed at cost of Rs 42 crores. At present, construction of three more high rise building going on at the hospital. Among them one will be a nine stored one, which is tallest in the state. The cost is around Rs 250 crore. All things are done to get appreciation from other states and centre.The state government is paying more attention in changing the outer appearance of IGM paying least interest for development medical services. Patients come here across the state for better treatment, seeing the glittering from outside its assumed they will get better treatment. Once they register their names they get disillusioned, the treatment provided is below par a primary health centre. Sources said the hospital also sans some emergency drugs and other important equipments.

“The hospital is devoid of emergency resuscitation kit, ambo bag, intubations tube and has less baby warmers. Sometimes a patient has to get a syringe from the market as it is not-available in the hospital.”
They said the administration deputes a single junior resident in the emergency department who is always overawed by the number of patients.

“In contrast to the emergency department of AGMC, which has separate medicine and surgery wing and has scores of doctors available, the junior resident here deals with all the cases coming to him irrespective of the nature of disease,” they said.
Sources said the Radiology department is also manned by Junior Residents after the specialists leave in the evening. “There have been instances wherein the junior residents have expressed ignorance over the Ultrasound findings saying that it was not their job,” sources added.
