AGARTALA, August 22 (TIWN): After so many scams and frauds found related to Ration Card, at last Tripura Govt. announced to implement without any delay to digitize Ration cards, to further implement National Food Security Act. This has been also termed as Public Distribution System (PDS).

It’s to be mentioned that 2 North Eastern States: Tripura and Mizoram are going to start this Public Distribution System (TPDS) to implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) within next month, reports says.

Like Adhar Card this ration card will also be digitized. As Adhar Card has 12 digit numbers, the ration card will also have digits, and will function like ATM cards or similar such things.

Another information is coming from official sources that BPL families can make a card called PG card, with terms and conditions. If BPL holders take PG, they will get a bonus on ration.

“Over 95 per cent of the 960,000 ration cards in Tripura have been already digitized. The remaining computerization works and setting up of call centres are now under process,” State Principal Secretary (food and civil supplies) S.K. Rakesh said.

However Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, “We will start implementing the food security act from next month. Our necessary preparation are almost completed,”  He said: “The Tripura government has been demanding universalisation of PDS and distribution of 14 essential items to people through the PDS.”

The entire PDS cost around Rs.11 crore, which is providing by the Central government, i.e. 90 per cent of the expenses.
