AGARTALA, August 20 (TIWN): To mark the celebration of the 3-day long Neermahal Tourism Festival scheduled to start fromSeptember 4, long distance swimming competition and boat race has been organized, confirmed an official here on Thursday.

The festival which will continue for three days will also observe various other competitions including cultural programme.

The programme will be organized with the joint initiatives of the Information and Cultural Affair Department and Tourism Department and Tourism Development Corporation.

With the cooperation of Rudrasagar Refugee Fishing Union Society, Sepahijala District Administration, Melaghar Municipal Council and various other departments.

To accomplish the celebration successfully altogether 11 sub-committees was formed and a main committee was formed under the observance of Chairperson of Melaghar Municipal Council Anima Mallobarman and Sepahijala Information and Cultural Affair Department officer Chandan Sarkar.

Neermahal literally means Water palace. The palace is a picturesque fairytale royal mention located in the middle of the Rudrasagar Lake build by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya at 1930 A.D as his summer residence being inspired by Mughal style of architecture.

Based on that every year in the month of August a big festival observed by the local body and Govt. Department which is called “Neermahal Water Festival”.

The festival observed for 3 days and many colourful cultural programme and event play at the evening.

A big attraction of the Neermahal water festival is boat race in Rudrasagar Lake. Different kinds of boats are participates in that boat race competition. Apart from that swimming competition also organised in the festival.

Neermahal festival second time organised in the month of December every year with some glorious cultural event at cold atmosphere of winter season.
