AGARTALA, August 18 (TIWN): 69th Independence Day has been celebrated with pomp and glory in all over the state just 2 days back, while Tripura after passing so many decades of independence is far way from economic progress and still crawling as a baby in the field of development. “Tourism” is such a field where Tripura govt. has no interest and has finally failed to attract its tourists.

No major industry here to provide livelihood to people, also in distributing govt. jobs state is giving very poor performance. But like Tripura, there are many states where, there is no industry, no scope for livelihood. But poor people of those states, used to earn money from tourists, by selling foods, handmade items to them.

From Goa to places like Aurangabad, where common people are poor and have no way to spend their livelihoods, they depend on tourists by entertaining them, selling various items to them. But at Tripura people can not depend on tourism, as tourists have lost their interests to come to Tripura by spending their lots of moneys.

The political personalities many times had said that “Tripura is a hilly state, so people don’t find it safe to come”, whether there are many hilly areas all over India which are famous for tourism, instead of their geographical obstacles.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura still has failed to connect the whole state by proper rail line connectivity.  So question arises, why people would bother to come here whether it lacks basic facilities?

Maxium parks and historical places are being damaged due to proper maintenance. From South Tripura’s Pilak to Unokoti, historical monuments all are on the verge of destruction. Moreover, Tripura is such a place where travelers can not stay comfortably. Hotels are very rare and not available for all kinds of tourists.

Tourism should be one of the key focus areas of the government for economic development. There will be resorts, cafes, water sports, etc near these places. Once tourism would get developed fast then an enormous development would occur which will help both the economy of the state govt. As well as it may stable financially many poor people.

At the end it can be said that tourism as a product could generate widespread benefits and impacts to the economy and society and generation of employment opportunities for women, indigenous communities and young people.

Further, tourism could be a source of foreign exchange earnings, tax revenue to the government and because of its multiplier effect, could provide opportunities for development.
