Security beefed up along Tripura border in wake of Independence-Day

AGARTALA, August 14 (TIWN): Security beefed up along bordering areas of the northeastern states of Tripura in wake of Independence-Day. The Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) have deployed additional forces to step up vigil in the state bordering with neighbouring Bangladesh just after the days ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Union home ministry has issued a massive security alert to all states of possible terror attacks, with special focus on Delhi, Mumbai, and the border states of Jammu & Kashmir and Gujarat.

The BSF official said that strength of security forces was augmented in vital areas of the state especially in the areas where the barbed wire fencings are yet to be constructed.

He also said that even though the insurgent activities have come down in Tripura unlike other northeastern states, the BSF along with the local police and its forces had intensified the vigilance along the bordering areas to restrict possible trans-border movement.

Patrolling along the Assam-Agartala national highway and interior places was being intensified as a precautionary measure.  

Besides, several precautionary steps were also taken by the state police in the city areas like Raj Bhavan, Civil secretariat and other protected areas.

The police and the paramilitary forces are also placed on a high alert in the state. Jointly by the police and the BSF forces are conducting search operations in the interior parts of the states and are checking all vehicles and passengers at different locations including the national highway.

According to the government report about 6.72 Km barbed fencing remained incomplete at Gomati, 0.549 Km at Unokoti, 0.744 Km at Khowai, 21.6585 Km at North Tripura, 20.194 Km at South Tripura, 12.914 at Sepahijala, 52.002 Km at Dhalai and 0.500 Km fencing remained incomplete at West district.

As many as 248 camps and BOPs along Indo-Bangladesh border having highest distance between two camps is 9.67 Km.
