AGARTALA, August 14 (TIWN): While Agartala grows in leaps and bounds, lack of man power in traffic department remains an eye sore to both residents and the authorities.

In recently revealed information, it is seen that there are only 506 employees in traffic police including officers, employees, and home guard.

There is a huge volume of traffic in Tripura. There is also shortage of traffic manpower, which affects traffic management. In the city, to handle the traffic chaos home guards, SPO and other employees are hired to manage traffic congestion at major intersections during peak hours, and at times, extend their duty hours to manage traffic as there is lack of traffic police in the department.

As home guards, SPO and other employees are hired to manage the traffic they are mostly untrained in the department of traffic management and at many several intersections of the city  traffic is mostly chaotic as the traffic police can’t manage the traffic signal and allegedly sometimes shows wrong signal which leads to more troublesome situation.

Apart from lack of manpower in traffic police department, some people under Dharmanagr Municipal council are illegally playing the role of traffic police in minimizing the traffic chaos at Dharmanagar.

All together about 20 people are managing the traffic on the road out of their own wish.

However, it is to be mentioned here that initiatives are taken to recruit new employees for 96 vacant posts.

The force deployed is too little to handle the number of vehicles and people.

Traffic in Agartala city has become chaotic, and traffic jams at major intersections is a common sight these days. This situation can be attributed to poor traffic management and lack of traffic employees.

Though traffic signals have been installed at most main junctions, they do not function properly. A lone traffic constable can be seen struggling to control the traffic at major junctions of the city. But the problem that remains is that there is no overall logic in traffic management state wide.

Absence of Traffic Police personnel fat major intersections in many areas of the Agartala, along with ongoing construction of flyovers, the slow vehicular movement is due to the absence of proper traffic management.
