AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) where continues to burden its power consumers to recover their losses and threatens them to disconnect their connection if they fails to submit their bill on time, it has failed to recover power bills amounting to Rs 47.36 crore from several government bodies.

According to the report of TSECL, altogether 41 departments and offices have lapsed on their bill payment.

Currently, the private consumers have lapsed Rs. 52.27 crore and the central offices established in the state lapsed around Rs. 4.48 crore.

Besides, various Government undertaken organizations are not paying around power bills amounting to Rs. 5.02 crore for prolonged years.

As per the report, even after prolonged years, the TSECL could not shape up the fate of over Rs. 100 crore pending government bills in the state that got piled up due to 'Non-payment of Government bills'.

While the TSECL continues to burden its consumers by threatening them to pay the bill on with the fear of disconnecting their connection, the corporation are not been able to recover power bills worth crores from several government and private bodies.

However, this amount should be recovered on priority basis and if the institutions fail to pay, strict action should be taken against them.

Despite the stunning figures of pending bills; the power connection to the departments cannot not be disconnected as most of their services come under the emergency category.

The Government departments with multiple connections usually don’t pay bills on a regular basis because of budgetary constraints. Most of them pay only when they are granted funds by the State government.

However, there are consumers who have just one or two connections but when they get the bill it comes more than their expected amount.

This creates resentment among the consumers. Interestingly, the Fishery Department, Agriculture Department, School Education and Higher Education Department, and many other departments lapse hefty amount of power bill.

Due to the lapse of bills by the Government Department, the common people have to bear the burden by paying the unexpected amount set by the TSECL.

However, the government is playing silent role over the lapse amount of bill and the harassment faced by the common people of the state.
