State to celebrate Poet Sukanta Bhattacharya Birth Anniversary

AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): To mark the auspicious occasion of the Poet Sukanta Bhattacharya Birth Anniversary on August 14, Information and Cultural Affair Department has taken an extensive preparation.

The programme will be organized at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on August 14.

During the programme, Information and Cultural Affair Minister Bhanulal Saha is expected to remain present as chief guest. Besides, Secretary of Information and Cultural Affair Department Santanu Das will remain present.

During the cultural programme, Daliya Das, Niti Goswami, Swanirma Debroy, Ranjana Baruwa and Subhrangshu Charaborty will perform.

Besides, several other programmes will be organized on the auspicious occasion of the Birth Anniversary celebration in the state.

However, along with the whole state, with the joint initiatives of the Information and Cultural Affair Department and Kishor Mohol Bishalgarh Division a programme will be organized on the Birth Anniversary of Poet Sukanta Bhattacharya at Bishalgarh Higher Secondary School.

During the programme, Vice-Chairperson of Bishalgarh Municipal Council Partha Pratim Majumder is expected to remain present.

Besides, Vice-Chairman of Bishalgarh Panchayat Samiti Dipak Paul will attend the programme.

However, the programme will be presided over by President of Kishore Mohol Guruprasad Bhattacharjee. On this occasion a sit and raw competition will be organized.

Similarly, with the joint initiatives of the Information and Cultural Affair Department and Melaghar Municipal Council, the birth anniversary will be celebrated at Melaghar Town hall.

The programme will be inaugurated by Chairperson of Melaghar Municipal Council Anima Mallabarman. The programme will be observed with various cultural programmes.

Sukanta Bhattacharya was born in the year 1926, August 15. He was a Bengali poet and playwright. Along with Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, he was one of the key figures of modern Bengali poetry, despite the fact that most of his works had been in publication posthumously.

During his life, his poems were not widely circulated, but after his death his reputation grew to the extent that he became one of the most popular Bengali poet of the 20th century.

He has had a significant influence on poet Subhas Mukhopadhyay and composer Salil Chowdhury who set some of his popular poems to music. He took his last breath in the year 1947, May13.

The poetry of Sukanta Bhattacharya is characterised by rebel socialist thoughts, patriotism and humanism. Yet, it is characterised by romanticism as well.
