AGARTALA, August 12 (TIWN): A full-fledged Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) is likely to be set up in Agartala before December this year, the assembly was informed here on Tuesday. While replying to a notice moved by MLAs Shyamal Chakraborty and Sudhan Das, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said a five member MEA team headed by Joint Secretary Pardeshi visited the state on August 10.
During the visit, the team selected the place for establishing Passport Seva Logo Kendra. Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and NBCC owned building at Jackson Gate will house the Kendra. A lease agreement has already been inked to use the second floor the building.
Following a request from the MEA, the state government has already a TCS gr- I officer to act as Asst Passport Officer. Now he is working at Regional Passport Office in Kolkata.
He further said the Asst Passport Officer will look after the functioning of passport seva \kendra here. A bank account has also been opened in SBI in the name of Agartala Passport Logo Kendra. Now interior decoration works are going on in the allotted rooms of the building. The works of the building are supposed to be completed b y next three months . It means the passport Kendra may come within next couple of months.
