AGARTALA, August 11 (TIWN): Despite the northeastern states of Tripura is being connected with several power projects of the state and the plants from other northeastern states the power situation has grimed in the state followed by daily load shedding and people has got no respite from it yet today even after the introduction of state’s biggest power plant Palatana installed at Tripura Gomati District. Currently Tripura is getting a total of 772.5 Mega Watt (MW) of power from its several power plants being installed in the state, the assembly was informed recently. Power Minister Manik Dey replying to the question moved by the opposition MLA in the house informed that at present the state is getting 560 MW of power from Palatana OTPC Power plant whereas on an average of 30 to 42 MW of power from Baramura thermal power plant. The Monarchak power plant under Sonamura Sub-Division has not yet started commercial generation power from its plant, he said. Besides, the Monarchak power plant which is currently in tussle with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is scheduled to resume its power generation from August 21 again.Talking to TIWN in this regard on Tuesday a reliable source from Monarchak plant infirmed that currently the plant is getting the supply of gas from ONGC but there is a chance of disruption in the supply following which the Plant is expected to resume its power generation from August 21.

However, the ongoing monsoon assembly session was recently informed that the state is currently receiving 7.4 MW of power from gas based power plants whereas another on an average of 30 MW of power from surplus power plants of the state.

Minister Manik Dey further informed that the state government id also receiving power from at least 8 power plants of other northeastern states including Loktak (NHPC) plant, Khangdong, Kipling-1, Kipling-2, Doyang, Ranganodi and another Kathalguri (NEEPCO). The state is receiving on an average of 40 to 60 MW of power from all the plants in other NE states.

Besides, Minister also said that the state government had recently formed Tripura Power Generation Limited (TPGL) as per the direction of Central Power Act, 2003. The TPGL was formed in view of getting all the existing power plants run smooth.

At present S K Dubey is the advisor of the state owned TPGL Company whereas other 9 officers from Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) were being inducted in the company comprising of 3 senior managers. He also said that the company was just formed and all the ongoing works of the infrastructures would be completed soon.

Interestingly what makes the growth story much interesting is that despite the state is being connected to a total of 722.5 MW of power the power situation has brought no end to the load shedding in the state as a result the people still suffers due to the power crisis.
