Literary competition observed at North District

AGARTALA, August 9 (TIWN): Three days long district level competition of on the literary creation of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam was organized at the Dharmanagar town hall on Saturday.

The programme was organized with the initiatives of the district Information and Cultural Affair office.

The programme was inaugurated by Deputy-Sabadhipati Swapan Kumar Debnath of North Tripura District Council, in the presence of Vice-Chairman of Dharmanagar Municipal Council Swapan Chandan.

The first day of the programme was observed with recitation contest. The participants of first and second standards recited on the writings of Rabindranath Thakur.

Besides, the third to fifth standards recited on the writings of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Further the participants of sixth to eighth standards recited few lines of Rabindranath Thakur’s poem and the ninth to twelfth standards participants recited on the poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

However, on August 10, a competition will be organized on Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Sangeet. The Ranbindra Sangeet will be divided in to two sections whereas the Nazrul Sangeet competition will be held in on section.

Rabindranath Tagore was born in the year 1861 May 7. He has been sobriquet as Gurudev and was a Bengali polymath who reshaped Bengali literature and music, as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Author of Gitanjali and its "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse", he became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He took his last breath on August 7, 1941.

Kazi Nazrul Islam was born in the year 1899, May 24. He was a Bengali poet, writer, musician, revolutionary and is the national poet of Bangladesh. Popularly known as Nazrul, his poetry and music espoused Indo-Islamic renaissance and intense spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. He took his last breath on August 29, 1976.
