AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN): The High Court of Tripura sits on Saturday for the final hearing of Ganadoot triple murder case mastermind Sushil Chowdhury’s bail plea, who was imprisoned for the life term by the lower court earlier. The final hearing on Sushil’s plea had begun from Friday and would continue till Saturday where the court is expected to pronounce its final decision.

So far the police investigation in Ganadoot triple murder case was found to be unhealthy with several loopholes came under the limelight in the HC.

The HC under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhashish Talapatra on Saturday sits for the final hearing on the bail plea of mastermind Sushil Chowdhury who was earlier sentenced to life term imprisonment by the lower court for his involvement in the murder case of at least three staffs at Ganadoot daily local office.

Interestingly, the police or its investigating agency had so far failed to prove accused Sushil’s involvement in the case with the HC in the recent past hearing the plea found that the the police lacked the forensic report of the knife being recovered from the incident spot after the murder of three employees.

Chowdhury’s lawyer Pijush Kanti Biswas stated the court that there are several loopholes in the police investigations and glaring anomalies in the recorded statements of 22 of 42 witness claimed on Friday that the statement of prime witness of the case Nyoti Ghosh should be verified.

CJ Deepak Gupta earlier hearing the plea of alleged mastermind Sushil Chowdhury had also pointed out that the police had made no effort to conduct healthy investigation.

Terming the incident to be sensational murder case the HC had mentioned that the finger print or the forensic report of the seized dagger and also the barricade of the incident spot inside the Ganadoot office is very important which would have brought some clear picture of the incident with the help of which the police could have undertake the investigation in a proper manner.

The West Tripura Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court had sentenced mastermind Sushil Choewdhury to life term imprisonment on July 17 previous year. Later challenging the verdict of the lower court Chowdhury had knocked the door of High Court and sought bail plea. The court had also slapped a fine of Rs. 60, 000 on Sushil Chowdhury.

“This is one of the rarest-of-the-rare cases. Choudhury was the main architect of the killing of three people and it was a pre-planned and tactful murder,” Judge Kripankar Chakraborty said in his 434-page judgment.

Three employees of 'Danik Ganadoot', a vernacular daily were killed inside the newspaper office premises at Palace Compound in the heart of the city on May 19, 2013 sending shock waves across the entire state.
