AGARTALA, July 31 (TIWN):The High Court of Tripura granted three months time to Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) for submitting detailed report of all the water bodies present in the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
It is mentionable here that a PIL was filed in the high court on behalf of the citizen forum of Kumaria Tilla Lake near GB hospital by a senior citizen Biswanath Datta.
During hearing, the court included all the waterbodies present in AMC. The case is in the divisional bench of Justice U B Saha and Justice S. Talapatra. By an interim order of the court, partial eviction was carried on eastern and western part of Kumaria Tilla Lake.
Later, the court directed the AMC to give detail reports why completion was carried out. AMC on July 15 hearing sought some time, the court agreed and told to submit report on July 29.Accordingly, on Wednesday submitted report in the court.
In January last a total of 44 families adjacent to Kumaritilla Lake were evacuated. They were directed to evacuate the illegally occupied government lands for years. AMC also served several eviction notices to them, but they did not abide by the government notice.AMC task force along with police launched the eviction drive o and completed the eviction without any major hassle. AMC under takes eviction drive regularly to remove illegal encroachment from water bodies.
At present there are few water bodies in Agartala. Mostly of them illegally occupied by encroachers causing serious threat to town dwellers.
