AGARTALA, July 30 (TIWN): The High Court of Tripura directed the Centre to pay compensation to the nearest kin of an Indian ctizen killed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Justice S. Talapatra on Tuesday gave the judgement.
According to report, Shah Alam Mia a resident of Tarapur village under Sonamura sub divison. His house was adjacent to Indo – Bangla border. On 20 January, 2012 around six o’ clock in the morning a section of heavily armed BGB crossed the international border and entered the house of Shah Alam.
The BGB personnel shot him dead and returned back to Bangladesh. It is alleged that the Indian security forces guarding the border did not play any role to protect the Indian citizen. The deceased left behind wife and three sons.
A case was registered at Sonamura police station (case number is 13/2012) under section 302 and 34 IPC , arms Act 27 and passport Act 2004. But police failed to give any justice to the deceased family. Seeing the no to other alternative, wife of the deceased demanding compensation filed a case in the high court.
After completion of hearing, Justice Talapatra gave the judgement on Tuesday. He directed the centre to pay Rs 3 lakh as compensation to Rehna Begum. The counsel for Rehna Begum was senior advocate Arun Kanti Bhowmick.
