Agartala, July 13 ( TIWN):With the incidence of kidney disease on the rise in the state, it’s matter of serious concern. Surprisingly, the left ruled government is least concern about the increasing menace. There is no specialized treatment facility available in the two medical college.
Without nephrologists no kidney related disease can be treated, till date there is no single nephrologists at both medical college. State’s premier hospital GBP was made medical college in 2005. The people thought they will get better and modern medical facilities. They need not rush to other states , the irony is even after decade the premier hospital failed miserable to deliver quality service. People are just witnessing high rise concrete building.
While inaugurating the medical college, chief minister Manik Sarkar in his long speech assured of providing specialized medical treatment for all section people in the state. He also claimed that referral cases to other states would come down. Whereas after ten years of Sarkar’s claim, nothing has changed, the number of referral cases outside the state is increasing day by day. Another primer hospital is IGM, 118 years old the medical facilities available there is no better than GBP hospital . Crores and crores are spend for infrastructures, least attention are paid for specialized doctors.
State-run dialysis centres continue to remain in short supply .Only GBP are equipped with dialysis machines, the rest of the seven districts do not have free dialysis facilities for poor chronic kidney patients.
According to senior doctors, there is a need to increase dialysis services. “There is definitely a need to increase the dialysis machines. The existing dialysis centre, however, is not doing well”
Another challenge that has continued to remain for health authorities is the availability of erythropoietin, which is mandatory for dialysis patients. A majority of the patients with end stage kidney ailments are anaemic and they need erythropoietin drug. Dialysis patients point out that the erythropoietin is not always available at GB hospital .
