BJP successfully managed to secure second position at the by-election, says BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta

AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): Bharatiya Janata Party successfully managed to secure second position by beating the Congress in the both 13-Pratapgarh and 46-Surma Assembly seats in West and Dhalai District of Tripura by-elections results on Tuesday.

Mentioning the total number of votes secured by the party, BJP President Sudhindra Dasgupta while addressing a Press Meet at BJP office on Tuesday said that this election the party has managed to secure second position by 18,195 votes.

He further stated that this election BJP relegated the Congress party to third position with 18,195 votes, whereas the Congress got 5, 187 votes and secured third position in the by-election.

The BJP contestant won by 18,195votes this time while Congress candidate Ranjit Kumar Das secured only 5,187 votes demoted to the third position.

While addressing the meet he enhanced about the 2014 Lok Sabha election where the Party has bagged 1.16 lakh of votes which is comparatively more than the 2009 Lok Sabha election when the party had secured 59, 457 votes.

Mentioning about the 2009 three-tier Panchayat, President Sudhir Dasgupta further stated that not even a single candidate were elected but in the last Panchayat election 142 candidates were elected. Altogether 5 Panchayats are under the grip of BJP said Party President Dasgupta.

Further, he said during the 2010 ADC election the party had secured 8 thousand votes whereas during the 2015 ADC election the part had secured 50 thousands votes.

During the meet, blaming the CPI-M Dasgupta informed that the BJP worker Gopal Namashudra has been beaten brutally and at present he has been admitted at the GB Hospital. Even the polling agents of the BJP were threatened to stop the work. Besides, Pratapgarh BJP candidate Moushumi Das was gheraued at the Nebedita Vidyapith School by the CPI-M cadres.

During the meet, Spokes Person Arunkanti Bhowmik, BJP State Secretary Tapas Majumder and others were present.

Of the total 92,146 voters, 50004 voters were from Pratapgarh Assembly constituency and the rest 42, 142 voters were from Surma Assembly constituency.

The voters exercised at total 62 polling stations in Pratapgarh and 54 polling stations in Surma Assembly constituency for the by-elections.

The counting session in both the constituencies was started from 8 AM.  This is for the first time in Tripura, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and ballot papers carried candidates’ photographs.
