AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday replying to the allegation of the Tripura Pradesh Congress against Tripura CPI-M MLA Keshab Debbarma over fake degree row case had empowered the congress to move to the court taking up the issue, said Opposition Leader Sudip Roy Barman. “Keshab Debbarma is non-matriculate,” adding Barman said that within the next couple of days the congress would move to the High Court seeking a cognizance of the offence made by Debbarma by swearing on false education qualification in the affidavits during 2008 and 2013.

Barman was interacting to the media persons here at Agartala Congress Bhawan on Saturday during the press conference.Accusing the MLA Keshab Debbarma over his fake degree Barman coming down heavily on the communist party said, “The CPI-M has been playing a double-standard politics by demanding a resignation of Union Minister for HRD Smriti Irani and coming here over the same fake degree row case the CPI-M remained mum.” Adding to that the opposition leader said, “The ruling CPI-M managed to keep such a fake MLA who had just fooled the people of the state and managed to contest the two elections during the year 2008 and 2013.”

“We had earlier written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer here at the state against Keshab Debbarma and demanded to disqualify him and take a legal action against him,” Barman told to the reporters on Saturday.

Adding to that Barman further said, “Today we have received a reply from the CEO who had attached an ECI circular here in the letter where i9t has been mentioned that the Congress is now empowered to move to to the court taking up the fake degree row case against the CPI-M MLA Keshab Debbarma.”

However it is worthy to mention here that very recebtly talking to TIWN in this regard CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar said, “There is no use of making the water dirty with the fake degree row case.”

Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman has written to the ECI complaining that Golaghati constituency MLA Keshab Debbarma has furnished differing educational qualifications in two state-wide election affidavits. The affidavits mentioned that during the year 2008 CPI-M MLA Keshab Debbarma had appeared for Madhyamik Examinations under the TBSE in 1992 whereas in the year 2013 Debbarma again mentioned in the affidavit that he had passed the Madhyamik examination during the year 1989 under the state board.

CPI-M MLA Keshab Debbarma with his unearthed fake degree in respect of education had managed to won the Golaghati constituency in both the 2008 and 2013 elections by raking in more than half the total votes each time whereas on the other the CPI-M at Delhi has been demanding for an action against HRD Minister Smriti Irani for similar case like Debbarma here.

However, interestingly the role of the communist party here in the state as well as Delhi had proved the party emerged with a “double standard politics”. According to the political analysis the role of the ruling CPI-M here in Tripura towards the Keshab Debbarma fake degree row has brought a jolt in the entire political attire of the CPI-M.
