KAMALPUR, June 27 (TIWN): Vote means business of administration, plying of candidate and his election agent from polling station to polling station, the hype of media and obviously the demand of win by each candidate.

The security forces and officials also remain busy in keeping the situation under control. The long line of voters, high percentage of votes and the trumpeting of democracy already become the tradition of our vote festival. But some traditions also grow up slowly out of the arena of media in this part of the state, which makes the people to enjoy the ‘vote-festival’ quite differently.

And while covering the bye-election of 46 Surma Constituency, the tradition is found lively enough and it too in the remote Janakram Para. In front of the polling station two middle aged men from Chankup namely Sudhir Pal and Sudhan Pal lay their temporary stalls of sweetmeats and food items. Polythene sheets are stretched on the ground covered with old newspapers. On the papers different types of jaggeries and spicy food items like samosa are kept in steel utensils. Besides there were other packeted food items too. Sudhir Pal told “I manage the canteen of Chankup School. Besides, on time of each election I set my temporary shop here. I have been continuing this for last one decade.” While asked he further asserted that, it already turned into a passion to him. He earned an average of 700 to 800 rupees in a day. Another vendor Sudhan Pal told that, he, a farmer by profession never bothered about profits. He opened his stall for passing time and grab how much possible.

Not only Sudhir or Sudhan but there are many such persons who enjoy the elections as a means of earning some profits. In their experience they have learnt that, the trumpeting promises of leaders and parties would never be able to bring change in their life and destiny. Hence they enjoy the festival of democracy from a completely different perspective.
