SONAMURA, 27 June (TIWN): The newly-built motor stand at Samhati Bridge adjacent area, in Sonamura Sub-Division inaugurated on October 31, 2014 by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar turns into a deplorable condition within a period of one year. The Bus Stand in the motor stand is in awful condition while the footpath along the road is almost occupied by the fruit sellers, compelling the pedestrians to walk on the road thereby putting their lives to risk.
Monsoon has wrecked havoc and has totally washed away the carpeting of the road of the Bus Stand leaving behind only stones and boulders while the boundary wall separating the Bus Stand from and Jeep/Auto Stand has totally collapsed and the grills fixed on it are uprooted posing threat for life.
Moreover the footpath along this wall is in deteriorating condition and at some places there is no footpath at all. Some other footpaths have been either occupied by the hawkers posing in-convenience to the smooth movement of traffic. In the centre of the Bus Stand there is an open drain emitting foul smell and which may lead to any untoward incident at any moment.
The present road turns from its original shape into a muddy or dusty road, depending on whether it is sunny or rainy and the commuters have no option but to travel through this long stretch of “jumpy bumpy” road full of potholes and boulders, at times risking their own lives.
The water logged on the road just inside as well outside the entrance gate, has left a bad impression on travelers who arrive here from different parts of the state, as they have to pass through the logged water that too filled with mud and garbage.
According to source they local people, have been demanding for renovation for long time of the Bus Stand area, but their demands have fallen into the deaf ears of the Sub Divisional officers and now when they have started the work, it is of no use as everything will be washed with the rain water.
