AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): Weakening of Congress’s support base in Tripura is putting more pressure in ruling CPI-M’s think tank than the Congress leadership here in Tripura, and the effect will be visible in the by- elections of 13 Pratapgarh and 46 Surma (SC reserved) constituencies which are going to polls on the 27th of this month.

With barely 20 hours left for the voting to take place on the 27th morning, the ruling CPI-M is losing its nerve and resorting to nefarious activities like burning down of campaign vehicle of BJP, damaging flags and festoons, threatening party supporters of BJP.

According to BJP think tank here in Agartala, the ruling CPI-M has felt the under current that is flowing in the two constituencies and is nervous with the probable setback for the party.

The rightist BJP of late has been able to make much inroad in the CPI-M and Congress’s support base in the two assembly constituencies and many supporters of these political parties have shifted their loyalty to the BJP creating many wrinkles on the forehead of the leaders of these two main political parties of the state.

Moreover,  the CPI-M’s decision of fielding two comparatively new comrades in the by-elections have angered many factions of the ruling party and the supporters of those factions are waiting to express their displeasure in the voting machine on the 27th morning, thinks the political analysts here.

“ A silent current is flowing in the two assembly constituencies in favour of the BJP and the result of these two assembly constituencies on 30th of this month will only prove the under current fruitful,” claims one of the top brass in the state BJP here in Agartala. It may be mentioned here that more than 93, 000 voters of these two assembly seats will determine the fate of the nine candidates that are in the fray. The 13 Pratapgarh assembly constituency has more than 50,000 voters who will decide the fate of the five candidates while more than 42,000 voters will decide the fate of four candidates on Saturday.

Meanwhile, State Election Commission has taken steps to make the by-poll violence free amidst concerns from opposition parties about the biased polling machinery to work in favour of the ruling party.

“Though our party will give a tough fight to the CPI-M, the CPI-M will have an edge in the election since the election machineries will be used to suit their interest,” claims a BJP activist in the capital city.

Adding more in support of his views, the BJP activist said that all the elections held in the Manik Sarkar regime were dubious and the election machineries were misused to make Left Front candidates victorious in the elections.

The result of the elections to be declared on 30th of June will tell which party will have the last smile and whether the fears expressed by the BJP will hold true or not.
