AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): On yet another major embarrassment to the state medical education, the Tripura High Court on Friday proved the irregularities at the state medical counseling board. The court on its verdict announced on Friday had asked the Medical Entrance Board and the counseling board to vacate the most preference General Surgery SC seat and replace Dr. Indrajit Manushya Das with Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik. Bhowmik filed a case with the HC against the board over depriving him from the counseling for the seat under SC category and cancel Dr. Shimul Sarkar’s seat under Anesthesiology. Talking to TIWN in this regard Advocate Arun Kanti Bhowmik said, “The HC on its verdict on Friday under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice S C Das had ordered the medical entrance board of the state to replace Dr. Indrajit Manushya Das with Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik under the SC category General Surgery seat and Das to Anesthesiology seat under SC category.”Adding to that advocate A K Bhowmik said, “Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik had filed a case with the HC against the board for depriving him from the SC category General Surgery seat.” Bhowmik who secured the 1st position under the SC category during the medical entrance examination conducted by the state medical board was admitted to Ophthalmology department. But despite a provision for a student to get other department in merit basis if any more comes in future, Bhowmik was restricted to take admission in the General Surgery department.

On June 4 another central quota has come under the General Surgery SC Category seat following which Bhowmik on a written application to the board sought permission to change his department from Ophthalmology to General Surgery department, said advocate.

He further said that another Dr. Indrajit Manishya Das who secured the third position in the counseling was admitt6ed top the General Surgery department, but the board refused the admission of Bhowmik who had secured the 1st position under SC category and 3rd under General Category. Besides, another Dr. Shimul Sarkar who secured 4th position in the recently conducted medical entrance examinations was admitted to Anaesthesiology department.

Adding to that Advocate Bhowmik said, “Hearing the case on Friday the court has decided to cancel the seat of Dr. Shimul Sarkar and replace with Dr. Indrajit Manushya Das.” The court had also directed the board to conduct another separate counselling for the Ophthalmology and admit Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik under General Surgery seat.

The court on Friday had also found the statement of the Chairman of the counseling board to be false. Providing documents with the court on June 10 the chairman had mentioned that Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik has not written any application to the board in regard of changing his seat from Ophthalmology to General Surgery and also he was found a late comer during the cou8ncelling of the General Surgery seat.

Advocate A K Bhowmik said, “Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik had registered his name first during the counselling under the General Surgery seat and also he had applied for the seat in a written application, but despite that the board refusing to give the seat had asked him to bring a clearance certificate from the previous department.”
