Tripura gets ready for by-election, EVMs sent to polling booths amidst tight security

AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): Preparations are on a peak for the by-election in Tripura Pratapgarh and Surma constituencies slated to be held on June 27, Saturday. The Central Paramilitary Forces had already arrived here at the state and has been deployed across the state to conduct free and fare elections on the two constituencies. The voting would kick start from 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM on Saturday. However, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on Friday were carried to the respective polling stations amidst the tight security of the CPMFs, BSFs, TSRs and the Tripura Police.After the scrutinisation of the EVMs those were shifted to the respective polling booths from the strong room at Agartala Umakanta School. Tripura to go for by-elections poll on Saturday, in 62 polling stations at Pratapgarh constituency and another 54 polling stations in Surma constituency. Amongst the total of 92, 146 voters, 50004 are from Pratapgarh constituency and 42142 voters are from Surma constituency. Around 600 polling personals would be deployed for the polling duty on Saturday. However, the campaign for the by-election has come to an end on Thursday evening by 5 PM. As to ensure greater transparency and avoid confusion in the minds of voters, the Election Commission has decided that electronic voting machines (EVMs) would henceforth display images of the contestants along with their names and party symbols. The new system would be operational for the first time during June 27 by-elections to six assembly constituencies in five states comprising of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

With an aim to conduct the election in a free and fare manner the Central Paramilitary Forces were deployed in the 13-Pratapgarh and 46-Surma Constituency. During the election, police personnel would also be deployed in the concern area.

According to the notification of the Election Commission of India, the polling for by-elections in the mentioned state would start from 8:00 AM and would be continued till 5:00 PM. The elections will be completed by July 2, 2015, issued ECI.The commission has decided that the voter’s identification shall be mandatory in the aforementioned by-elections at the time of poll. Electoral photo identity card (EPIC) shall be the main document of identification of a voter.

To enforce the election on time, all the School and other organization which falls in between 13-pratapgarh and 46-Surma assembly constituency will remain close. Even the employees who are employed under any other organization outside the constituency will get a special casual leave on June 27.
