Gandacherra police arrests fake doctor: SDM talks to TIWN

GANDACHERRA, June 26 (TIWN): Gandacherra police arrested one Prasenjit Biswas(25) from Gandacherra Sub Divisional Hospital under Dhalai District on Thursday evening in allegation of impersonating as a doctor and administering injection to two indigenous patients admitted at Gandacherra Sub Divisional Hospital.

The accused, Prasenjit Biswas, entered the hospital and administered an injection to Joberai Reang and Kanta Tripura. He also reportedly charged Rs. 150 to Rs 300 from each patient for pushing injection.

However, when he approached to another patient – Swarup Biswas to administer an injection, the patient denied saying that he had no money. Prasenjit however, insisted him to take the medication in exchange of Rs. 100. After a long time, Swarup agreed and went out of the hospital to bring money from his family members.  By the time the pharmacist seeing the newly prescribed medicine and injection by the doctor grew suspicion and wanted to check who the new doctor is prescribing such medicine.

In the meantime, the hospital staffs smelled fishy and informed Gandacherra Police. Getting the information, police rushed to the spot and arrested Prasenjit on the spot.

However, Joberoy’s condition started deteriorating after pushing injection and he was shifted to AGMC Hospital for better treatment.

Hospital sources said that the patients were administered medicine of gastric and antibiotic.

Talking to TIWN Correspondent Gandacherra SDM Bhaskar Dasgupta said that, Prasenjit Biswas is a newspaper hawker by profession and he was in responsibility of distributing newspaper to the hospital. And taking the advantage of distributing newspaper to the hospital he entered the hospital building at regular intervals and impersonate himself as the doctor of the hospital. He has also earlier committed this crime 4 to 5 times but no one could catch him.

After police interrogation the accused revealed that he used to enter the hospital regularly and had cancelled the prescription prescribed by the doctors of the hospital and asked the patients to get the new medicines from the pharmacy and charged around 200 to 300rs from the patient, said SDM Bhaskar Dasgupta.

Besides a highly placed official of Gandecherra administration further said that, this circumstance is an outcome of lack of security and lack of intervention program at the hospital premises.

However, the accused is produce before the court and police is further investigating the case.
