BELONIA, June 23 (TIWN): The standard of the 2-storey Belonia Public Library is running under major threat of terrible condition, resulting continues decline in the participation of book lovers who mostly visit the library to read the valuable books over there.

The condition of the library building is so terrible that besides maintaining the books of the library and the registry including maintaining the records of the members and the non-members, during the rainy season the librarian including other employees of the library gets busy in putting the buckets and vessels to control the flow of leakage water all over the floor of the building.

Resulting, deplorable condition of the stack rooms and many valuable books in various stakes are in stage of destruction.

However, the pathetic situation does not end up here, every individual who visits the library daily, enters the building with a terrified face and throbbing heart. As the two storey building  which was built in the year 2004 on February 19, for last 1-year running is such a terrible condition that any moment it can collapse down claiming several life of the innocent people who comes to the library with an interest to gain knowledge.

The condition of the 1st floor of the building is so terrible that the authority has decided to bring down all the arrangement to the ground floor, thinking that at least the ground floor is little safe then the 1st floor.

Earlier, several conference and programmes were arranged at the 1st floor but due to the terrible condition occurred for the last 1-year forced the authority of the building were forced to arrange all the items under one roof.

The peripheral area of the library too depicted poor picture as one can see stagnated water, wild grass and garbage littered all over.

Reportedly, the building was constructed by the Public Work Department (PWD) and a total of Rs. 63 Lakhs were spent which was inaugurated by Former Higher Education Minister Keshab Majumder.

When asked about the condition of the building, the In-Charge of the building said that they have informed several time to the Public Work Department (PWD) including the MLA’s and the Higher Authority but till today no positive initiatives have been taken to renovate the pathetic condition of the library. Despite repeated presentations to officials, the authorities have completely turned a blind eye.

The terrific condition of the Library which is being neglected by the authorities brewed resentment among the locals as well as among the individuals who comes to read books, saying where the funds go if the concern authority is delivering it on time.
