Tripura’s golden era : Massive looting of central funds in Mid-Day meals, guardians protest against poisonous meals at Khowai

KHOWAI, June 22 (TIWN): Corruption tainted CPI-M Govt’s misdeeds, massive corruptions destroying the basic dignity of human life in Tripura as Govt supplying insect filled poisonous mid-day meals for children consumption in the schools across the State. Central Govt sponsored mid-day-meal scheme main purpose was enhancing enrolment of children in schools, improving the nutritional status, health of children. But for Tripura this mid-day-meal has become almost a life risk matter and thus a threat to all malnourished children’s life. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his dysfunctional Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty indeed very lucky that none of these Govt corruptions, irregularities, scams, tortures on State’s children, people will ever appear in national media as most of the national media journalists are purchased successfully by ruling CPI-M. So as a result, most of these pet correspondents based in Agartala prefer to close eyes on daily sufferings of people and compete for hiding all type of Govt Corruption. Needless to say that, 100% credit for building Manik Sarkar’s clean image nationwide certainly belong to some national media correspondents based in Agartala. In return CM gifted them land, residences, money, jobs for spouses etc. Due to utter disregard of human life and corrupt administration, Khowai U.D. Nagar Anganwadi center engaged storing insect filled rice, cereals (musur dal), pesticide laden foods for consumption of little children in Mid-Day meal scheme. It is to be mentioned that on 26th August’ 2014 at Bishalghar’s Noyapara S.B School 48 students fell ill after taking the midday meal. Around 3 lakh 30 thousand 780 students are benefited under the midday meal scheme.

Massive anger brewing among guardians, who are sending their children every day, with the risk of food poising due to poisonous food items.

The Midday Meal Scheme is a school meal programme of the Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide. The programme supplies free lunches on working days for children in Primary and Upper Primary Classes in Government, Government Aided, Local Body, Education Guarantee Scheme, and Alternate Innovative Education Centres, Madarsa and Maqtabs supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and National Child Labour Project schools run by the Ministry of Labour.
A teacher of that Anganwadi canter namely Labanya Prabha Biswash along her co-workers is  being alleged to be involved in a game of “money- making”, in exchange of providing the children poor quality of food day after day.
Allegations are coming against Labanya Prabha Biswas for her inhuman tortures upon the innocent children by providing filthy, poisonous food items, which are further failing health of children. Many times guardians asked her not to provide such foods to the children, but the situation has not yet been changed. As a result the guardians also complained to local authorities but all went in vain as education officials hand-in-hand with corrupt teachers.
The guardians, including local people claimed that the Angwanwadi workers often come late in school which has become a daily menace. Students are often found as waiting before the gate to be opened by the late comer teachers. Local people on Sunday finally found the poisonous, insect filled food items and reported to media.
Moreover, when the guardians raised that issue to the supervisor of that centre Gopa Achariya, she simply avoided their allegation by saying that she herself often visits that Anganwadi centre but never she found any such poisonous food items as they are describing. She further claimed that the teachers and workers also come in their usual time.
As a result, the guardians of the students of Khowai U.D. Nagar Anganwadi on June 21, came up in a protest rejecting their children’s continuous consuming of this poisonous mid-day-meal .
In the last year, at least 48 students, including girls, fell sick Wednesday after eating mid-day meal at Noapara Senior Basic School in Tripura's Bishalgarh. Then 50 girls of Classes VI-VIII of Mirzapur H.S. School at Belonia in South Tripura fell ill in the month of April.  At least 40 students of government-run Udayabata Upper Primary school fell ill after allegedly eating a mid-day meal on the month of February.
With a view to enhancing enrolment, retention and attendance and simultaneously improving nutritional levels among children, the National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE) was launched as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme on 15th August 1995.
In October 2007, the Scheme was extended to cover children of upper primary classes (i.e. class VI to VIII) studying in 3,479 Educationally Backwards Blocks (EBBs) and the name of the Scheme was changed from ‘National Programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education’ to ‘National Programme of Mid Day Meal in Schools’. The nutritional norm for upper primary stage was fixed at 700 Calories and 20 grams of protein. The Scheme was extended to all areas across the country from 1.4.2008.
Discovery of poisonous food items for children mid-day meal are nothing else but organized corruptions, lack of monitoring  by the state govt. machineries .
